It all begins with God. He created us to live in friendship with Him. Everything was created by Him and for Him and nothing exists apart from Him. He alone rules over the universe.
God created mankind to enjoy a love relationship with Him, but God also gave us the ability to choose. We can choose whether or not to love God and do life His way. Because mankind chose to go its own way (the Bible calls that "sin"), the relationship with God was broken.
Because a moral God must punish sin, man's destiny was separation from God.
God Himself provided a solution though. Rather than punish those He loved, God took the form of a man, Jesus, and took our punishment upon Himself. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, then died on the cross in our place.
We receive God's forgiveness as a free gift by placing our faith in Jesus and what He did for us on the cross. No amount of good works or religion can make us acceptable to God or can earn His forgiveness. The Bible calls this "grace."
When we place our faith in Christ, we experience a spiritual birth. The Bible says we are made a new person. Our sin is forever forgiven and we are promised eternity in heaven where we will enjoy a love relationship with Him as He always intended.
Today, God is at work conforming us to the image of Jesus. He has given us the church to help us know Him better, worship Him and live together in community with others who know and love God. He has also given us the mission of telling others about the free gift of forgiveness He offers to everyone.
We hope you will join with us in our spiritual journey to know and love God and make Him known in Fayetteville and on the University of Arkansas campus.
